The University announced that they would remain closed today and Friday, giving us a total of 6 days off this week before work starts again Monday. We continue to have power, although many of our neighbors do not and they predict it won't be until Saturday when it is restored. Jonathan met with his staff today to brainstorm some programming ideas to keep students occupied with while they are stuck in the building. He called it "preventative maintenance" so they don't start doing damage. The basketball game tonight has opened up their student tickets for free, trying to draw a crowd. That will be helpful for our crew since we share the parking lot with the arena. Tomorrow there will be a ping pong tournament in the Great Room and a movie at night. While the cable has been out since Tuesday, we are hoping that all will get up and running before the super bowl on Sunday.
We ventured out last night to get a break. Jonathan was tired of the cafeteria meals and we were up for some ice scraping! I had to sit in the back seat because the passenger door was frozen solid, but we made it down the road to one of our Mexican restaraunts and had a good meal out. We tried to pick up a few things at Walmart while we were out but as we pulled up, they closed their doors for the night due to power outages. Rumor is they are back up and running today. But you know when a Walmart closes, this has got to be serious! The roads have cleared a lot and are safer to drive on, just a lot of power loss across the area.
