The Toddler Life

We are a month shy of Heath turning 2. Unlike other birthdays where I say I can't believe he is __, this feels very real and appropriate. Heath is growing up, looking more like a little boy and less like a toddler and certainly not a baby anymore. At 29.5 lbs he continues to be a healthy boy that gets a huge gut after a big meal. He eats well, plays hard, gives hugs and kisses and does a good job of exercising those emotions and voices. I've been a little behind on updating the blog this past month (more on that later), so here is an overview of what growing Heath has been looking like and the kinds of things he is up to (and in to).
Heath joins our community group every Thursday night for dinner and then he plays with Daisy (3) while we do our thing. This time he joined us for his first foot washing service, which of course had me balling. (Daisy's dad David is washing his feet, he sat so calmly through the whole thing and really enjoyed getting his turn)

Heath has turned a corner and once again loves bath time. After the Arizona trip in March and being in a pool again he likes to pretend he can swim in the tub. I credit Oma and Opa for bringing him out of the anti-bath funk. Thank you!!!

Heath climbed into the dryer all by himself. He is usually very helpful with laundry and weekend chores. He likes to take clothes out and put them in, shut the door, play with the light. This particular morning he got curious as it was empty and just dove right in!

And then we have a lot of these 'exploring emotions' moments with Heath lately. He gets mopey and whiney and just has to let it out, sometimes not wanting us to touch him and other times letting us comfort him when we ask 'do you need a hug' and he adorably says 'yesh'. Good and challenging moments about this new stage of growth for Heath and his parents!

This was after picture day and we asked him how he smiled for the camera. This cheesy look is what we've gotten back on most pictures lately. We've yet to see the school pics, but anything should be better than the Fall mugshot he offered. (Getting so tall in this carseat now!)

My office sponsored the VT World Cup and I took Heath to watch a few of the final soccer matches. He loved watching the 'boys' play and one team had a drummer when they scored, he loved that! When we left he waved to the field the whole walk to the parking lot saying 'bye boys, bye bye boys'.

Heath's final four teeth have been coming in this past month and so there have been a few more bumps in the middle of the night routine with him waking upset at 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or some combination of those times. On the tired nights we don't have energy to sit up and rock him down he's been snuggled with in our bed and sleeps like a champ (after moving around on my head and neck and chest for ~30 minutes). He is becoming more consistent with wanting 'Puppy' for sleeping. But when he gets up in the morning he promptly places the dog back in his crib until the bedtime routine the next night. You can see here we are also letting his hair grow longer and he gets adorable blond curls in the back of his head.
