And I guess you could say we have been trying to keep up with him since! It's not that life has been so crazy and hectic, actually the summer season has brought a wonderfully calm pace that lets us spend great quality family time together. The computers (and blog) have been more neglected and I think that is a good thing. But to recap on Heath turning 2. . . it happened Sunday, June 3rd. On Saturday we celebrated with a few friends coming over to play in our backyard for a wonderfully sunny but cool day. Thankfully Grandma and Grandpa Manz came up to celebrate (and take pictures- otherwise we'd have none to document the day!).
When I say slow summer and backyard party, this is the kind of casualness (awesomeness) I'm talking about- birthday cake on mom's lap.
The wind blew the candles out before Heath did, but that didn't stop him from blowing hard at the end of the song.
He was pretty pumped to have people singing the birthday song to him all week.
And while you may be thinking that hippy mama didn't let her kid have frosting on his birthday cake? Where are all the messy photo ops? Heath LOVED this Apple Swirl Cake. He downed it like a fat kid and didn't look back. I used a bit less sugar and applesauce instead of oil, but here is the recipe, click ( here ), if you would like to try- parents came back for seconds... I'm just sayin'.
Thanks to Uncle D and Tante Kristen, Cousins Beka and Drew for Heath's new "mawmower" It was a hit! He even let friends at the party share.
And Grandpa was on hand to share wagon rides with the party guests as well as the birthday boy!
This little guy is growing up!
Happy Birthday, Heath! Seems like yesterday that we were two pregnant girls in my living room with no real idea what we were getting ourselves into! Now I just wish we could get these boys together for a play date!
