We are not done yet, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. For the past three weeks we have been running with RA Training, then move-in and orientation camps, this past Monday classes started and we have had events every day for welcome week!
Monday was the ASG welcome back cookout and while the weather was relatively mild, I was still in the sun serving hot dogs for a few hours. It was a great time to see returning students and they always appreciate any free food you are handing out.
Wednesday was our big merchant and student organziation fair- Razorbash. It really is like a fair- there was even cotton candy! Since half of the tables are filled by student groups I help with the check-in and overall flow of the day. It is a fun but LONG day!
Thursday was an event called Groovin' on the Grass where free food is served and a live band plays. This year I was on the welcome week committee and we were challenged to come up with a few new programs that would wow our students- but with no additional funds of course. So I suggested a t-shirt exchange where we collected leftover programming shirts from departments on campus to swap with students and their used shirts. So this idea evolved and an awesome committee helped me to create Hog T.E.E.s (Tshirt Exchange Extravaganza). We collected over 1,000 shirts for the event and students LOVED it. They could swap or buy a shirt for $1. We raised $775 and over 120 swapped shirts to donate to Peace at Home Family Shelter here in town. The students were totally pumped about the idea guaranteeing this new event to be an annual ocurence. Here are a few pictures from Hog T.E.E.s
WOW! I wondered was Hog TEEs was when you posted about it earlier this week. I'm glad you took a few minutes to write about it here! Sounds like a really great event, Lyns!! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Dollar Days at Baylor was what inspired me- that and reading Go Green Save Green. It's a reuse, recycle friendly event!
