I resolve to..

Send at least one card a month in the mail to someone I love. I (Lyndsy) miss writing notes and while I love skype and email for all my out of state friends and family, there is just something special about writing and receiving a note in the mail. Plus I stocked up on the last postage change for the timeless stamps so we are covered. I will have 12 less stamps by this time next year!
Finish reading the books I have started. I admit it, I have a problem. I love books and reading, so much so that I cheat on them and can't have just one. This results in my overflowing nightstand with books I have picked up to re-read or ones I've been given to read. Here is the short list of what I will finish this year- maybe more- but for sure these:
  • Go Green, Save Green FINISHED 12/30/09 (It's what inspired me to get completing!)
  • East of Eden FINISHED 1/18/10 (A gift from one of my youth ministry students in '05 that I started on our honeymoon in June '08)
  • The First Five Years: Make the Love Investment that Lasts a Lifetime FINISHED 1/20/10
  • Total Money Makeover
  • Everything Must Change: Jesus, Global Crisis and a Revolution of Hope
  • Seeds of Hope (My favorite Henri Nouwen reader that I am going through for the 4th time)
  • The Rights and Responsibilities of the Modern University
  • Biblical Exegesis (A re-read from college)
  • Belly Laughs FINISHED
These two we are reading on a weekly basis every Sunday night to chart Baby Manz's growth:
  • Watch me grow
  • What to Expect when you are expecting

I enjoy the new year and the reflection time for thinking about how I want to develop myself. Two things may not seem like a lot but I know it will provide me with deeper connections to others and deeper reflection for myself through reading.

  1. I read East of Eden last year and thought it was a pretty good tale. What did you think? I'm currently re-reading Pride and Prejudice and a book about Amy Carmichael. I also cannot read only one, but my reading is super slow because of school.

  2. I really enjoyed East of Eden. I feel like I'm still processing it in some ways. I get stuck reading the final chapters slowly because I don't want it to end and it seems like so much happened at the end of East of Eden. I found it amazing that every time I picked it up I knew right where I was with each of the characters and was just as engaged. I definitely recommend it.
