First Day of School!

While we were not looking forward to dropping Heath off at daycare (or school as we call it), the day has been much more bearable than imagined. He got a great stretch of 9 hours sleep last night and two feedings this morning plus snuggle time with mom in bed before we took him to Central United Methodist's Center for Children. Heath is in an infant class of 9 with 3 teachers- only 4 of his classmates are not born yet! So we get the bonus of more individual attention as we start this transition.

After labeling everything, everything, last night and setting out the milk this morning for his bottles, we were ready to go. After parent orientation Tuesday night we were less than thrilled because while we'd been negotiating using cloth diapers we felt the strong sense in person that not all the assistants were on board. Disappointing to hear after we invested another $200 in all in one diapers to make it the easiest possible on them. So off we went this morning with our cloth diapers in tow!

When we arrived we met the interim lead teacher and modeled a diaper change for her to which her response was 'great that looks easy.' :) Yes. Yes it is. One of the assistants took Heath and put him on the floor under a mobile activity that he took to right away smiling and talking to it. So little man really made it easier on us to walk away. And we went right to moving boxes for the next five hours as we moved the rest of our residents in to the building. Physical labor was great for a work out and keeping my mind going.

I picked Heath up at 3pm...5pm just seemed a little long for the first day. His teachers reported that everything went well and he ate and pooped just like he does for us at home- a lot of both. I do have to get busy on the pumping end of things to keep up with him, but hopefully that will get better in time. The assistant teacher who had frowned at the cloth diapers at orientation reported that they were much different than what she was expecting and they were really very easy. Yes. Yes they are. So all in all a good first day. One of the only bummers of the daycare experience was that after labeling everything the day before with Manz- because they only said 'label your things' all of the bottles and accessories came home with stickers over Manz that said Heath. If you want first name labels you really should specify that, say- during orientation. But you loved on our son and I can scratch off the sharpie markings to re-do first name identifiers if you prefer to remember first names only.

Thank you all for your support and inquires as we make this transition to full time work again and less Heath time during the weekdays. I did not cry today, but it sure was hard to put him in his crib tonight after he fell asleep. I just wanted to hold him longer because the day felt so short.
