The Virginia Update Post

I have a job.

We have a house.

We have turned in our resignation letters and will be leaving Arkansas June 30th, arriving in Blacksburg July 2nd. Time is flying by! We also have a family vacation coming up that will actually put us in Portland, OR June 22nd-29th then fly back to AR where we will have already moved out of our place and loaded up a POD. So really, time is flying. Two more weeks of work for us in the office.

This job search has been a stressful roller coaster to do in alignment with an already planned relocation and having Heath in the picture this time. We have gotten our hopes up several times on rental homes that ended up falling through last minute. I have heard lots of silence on my end of following up with applications. So if we've been a bit quiet about things online, that is why. I've been wanting to wait until some things are firmed up before announcing and then retracting statements later. But things are rolling now and I think it is ok to share!

We signed a lease and put down a deposit on a cute 3 bedroom 2 bath house that is about a mile east of VT campus. We can walk it, bike it, or take the bus that picks up at the end of our block about 8 houses down. There is a great backyard that Heath will love to play in and Jonathan is already stoked about mowing (see previous post). The homeowners have been great to work with so far and live locally. You can see pictures of our house while they are still up for now on the listing website.

I've been in conversation with the Student Conduct Office at Virginia Tech for the last month or so now about an opportunity to take on an interim role. They are losing an employee to another department and are in need of someone to fill the gap for a year while they do some reconfiguring and can do a national search next spring. The Director of the department is the same person who interviewed Jonathan for his GA position and so I got to meet her at NASPA in Philly. She has been a big help in our relocation and in offering me this opportunity! I will be a hearing officer and advise their student hearing board in addition to helping give feedback to their office as they continue to grow.

So the POD has been ordered, our final dates given, and we are trying to eat as much Hammontree's and Cable Car Pizza before we have to leave Fayetteville!

  1. Next on the list of BIG details is finding childcare for Heath. Hoping that when we get to town new things will open up then what we can see from a distance now.
