Transitions

As Lyndsy has documented in the last few posts, we have actively been in the job market since January.  It has been a long and a bit stressful journey.  However, we are both excited to announce that I (Jonathan) have accepted a position at Purdue University as an Assistant Director for Residential Life.

One of my primary responsibilities will be steering a group of faculty, staff, and students in the creation of Purdue's first residential college.  The residential college concept came from universities in Oxford and Cambridge and later adopted by primarily Ivy institutions in the States.  Despite the concept being hundreds of years old, it is still a novel concept for state institutions such as Purdue.  This model was adopted at Virginia Tech about five years ago and I'm excited to bring these ideas with me.

Heath has been very excited about the move and glad we'll be in Indiana in time for him to start kindergarten.  Lyndsy is selectively looking at opportunities in the area, but not going to rush into anything simply to have a job.

With the new job of course comes transition.  I accepted the job on Monday, we met with our realtor on Tuesday, and the house officially went on the market today (Thursday).  We've already had three showings today and two more are scheduled for tomorrow.  Right now we are riding the adrenaline of excitement about the move and craziness of selling the house.  Soon enough it will kick in that we are leaving Blacksburg; a community that we love.  I'm sure that topic will warrant its own post.

There are a ton of people that have been supportive on the emotional rollercoaster that is the job search.  Our parents, Adam, church community, particularly the Chinn Family, and friends from work, particularly the Kerr-Finger Family, Frances, Martha, Frank, and Suzie, and many, many more.

Stay tuned for more details about life in West Lafayette, IN.  And for all the Hokies, don't forget that Virginia Tech plays at Purdue on September 19th.  Come see us!
